robertsloan2's profile

Robert A. Sloan is a disabled 54 year old science fiction, fantasy and How To writer with a passion for visual art, both collecting and creating artworks in many different mediums. His latest passion is Oil Pastels. He owns and writes http://www.explore-oil-pastels-with-robert-sloan.com and will begin a series of independent lightfastness tests on both artist grade and cheap student grade oil pastels in April 2009.

He lives with his devoted Siamese muse, Ari Cat, his daughter's cat Gemini the Purring One and his daughter's family which includes two toddler grandchildren, a great son-in-law, their Siberian Husky, Zoe and black Lab/Australian Shepherd mix Ayla, the World's Most Submissive Dog. Last year she passed the Cat Test at the Humane Society. Everyone in the family is a hard working artist, artisan, crafter, writer, do-it-yourselfer except for Ari Cat of course, who edits and sheds Cat Hairs of Inspiration on all of Robert's online friends.

Robert's art listings can be found on eBay by searching on "Robs Art." His eBay username is robertsloan2art because his usual username got taken already by a previous account under a now-defunct email to which he lost the password.

His ETSY store also has some ACEO listings:

Robert blogs at:

http://robertsloan2.blogger.com

Robert has published numerous How To articles, mostly on realistic drawing in various mediums on http://www.ehow.com, and is beginning to explore http://hubpages.com where he has a dozen or so lengthier and more detailed "Hub" articles, each of which is laid out more like a magazine article with sidebar articles and larger illustrations.

His epic Science Fiction novel, "Raven Dance" is available at iUniverse.com.

As mentioned, his current nonfiction project is writing http://www.explore-oil-pastels-with-robert-sloan.com -- after working on several ideas for art instruction books since 2000, he's finally found the right topic to fill a gap in what's available online or offline. The site will go over 200+ pages and be turned into a modestly priced ebook when it's completed.

Why not do an entire book online, free to readers, ad supported and available for a low price to those who want it offline? It worked for John Scalzi, authors who give away ther books online get buzz and sell more copies. Other possible projects related to Oil Pastels would be a physical print on demand workbook with plenty of color illustrations and good exercises for improving your drawing and painting skills.

His fantasy novel "The Curse of Vaumuru" is being edited for submission to agents and publishers and is on its way out the door as soon as the last edits are done on the synopsis and cover letter. "The Curse of Vaumuru" is set in the magical North American Pleistocene.

Robert writes and thinks at above 100 words per minute thanks to the magic of the Dvorak keyboard layout.

Notes

Hi Robert. It´s true that I have submitted any articles yet, it's something I keep meaning to do but never seem to get time! I have a busy photography studio and get interrupted every few minutes.

I've been a member since Quondio first started and feel quite ashamed that I have only contributed comments so far, but I do enjoy reading the Intel.

Hi Robert, I have a DeviantART page too. It's tough to make money as an artist these days.

Hi there, I'm glad you enjoyed reading about Devonian mass extinction, it's indeed a frightening thought how we could so easily be wiped out in the blink of an eye! and how lucky we are that we survive each blessed day without being totally annihilated!
